One of my favourite jobs is photographing the Sotheby’s Institute of Art orientation days and graduation ceremonies. I don’t do the formal graduation photography posed photos of the students in their caps and gowns; instead I wander amongst them as they’re getting ready and lining up outside the ceremony, chatting and laughing and posing for silly photos with their friends. I love this kind of candid documentary event photography! After the ceremony there’s even more opportunity for fun photos as the graduates are congratulated by their families and friends during the drinks reception.

This particular ceremony was extra special because it was the first one after the long covid lockdowns, which meant there were two years of graduates. It was held in Bedford Square right outside the Institute’s main office.
